Shawn Brant remains behind bars
Most of the 13 protestors involved in last week’s Mohawk Blockade at the Skyway Bridge near deseronto are again free on bail. but, their 44-year old leader Shawn Brant remains behind bars until later this month. Brant was charged with mischief and breach of conditions when Tyendinaga First Nations officers moved in to end the week-long standoff last Friday morning. Brant was out on condition that he not participate in any blockades and protests. He’ll appear in court again June 22nd. Meanwhile, a large group of Mohawk supporters appeared in Belleville yesterday at a bail hearing for a number of the protestors….most of them were granted bail.
