Unlike other local school boards….the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board has passed a balanced budget without laying off teachers. As a matter of fact the 178-million dollar budget, which was passed last night, will see the equivalent of 7.5 fulltime teachers hired in the 2009-2010 school year. Board Chair Carl Pitman says he’s pleased the board has been able to hire more staff and put supports in place to assist students be succesful. he says declining enrolment continues to be a reality and will contribute to ongoing financial challenges. The board will add 2.5 high school teaching positions and five elementary positions and six custodians and electricans.
