Almost 5 hours of discussion in Picton last night on what many consider a watershed development proposal…..a plan to build 237 cottages and amenities on East Lake at Cherry Valley. Over 200 people sat in the arena, most dead set against the proposal, saying such a large development, similar to a sub division in that area, was wrong. The project’s supporters saw it as bringing jobs and LOTS of tourism money to the County. Just before midnight, Council voted 12 to 4 in favour of allowing the development. Here’s the President of the Friends of East Lake, Linda Cole says many residents are in tears and feel they’ve lost their tranquil lifestyle. The Friends plan on appealing the decision to the Ontario Municipal Board. The development is expected to bring about 7 million dollars a year in economic activity to the County when it’s completely finished, and 800 thousand a year in local taxes.
