The Hastings-Prince Edward Medical Officer of Health disagrees with the World Health Organization’s decision to declare the swine flu outbreak a pandemic.
The W-H-O has set the pandemic alert at its highest level, the first such declaration since the 1968 Hong Kong flu.
Doctor Richard Schabas calls it the latest in a long line of mistakes by the organization with regard to H-1-N-1.
He says an influenza pandemic normally infects a very high percentage of the population, and causes higher levels of serious illness and death than normal flu, which hasn’t happened with the swine flu.
