Belleville police are mourning the death of one of their own. At a news conference today, Acting Police Chief Brian Harder expressed the shock felt by the entire police service as he announced the death of 51-year-old Acting Sergeant Mike Eby.
Acting Chief Harder says the body of Officer Eby, a crime analyst, was found in a locked second-floor office Wednesday morning with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound. Eby, off-shift, had entered the station overnight and had spoken briefly with other officers. Acting Chief Harder says the police force was not aware of any problems. Detective Inspector Mike Graham will head up the investigation into the death.
