The local unemployment rate was unchanged in July.
Statistics Canada’s labour force survey reports the unemployment rate for the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area, which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon, was 6.7 per cent, the same as June.
Kingston’s rate dropped a tenth of a point to 5.8 per cent while Peterborough’s was 6.8 per cent, up from 6.4 the month before.
Nationally the rate fell to its lowest level in two years – 6.4 per cent from June’s 6.5.
The national number is down half a percentage point since April.
Ontario added the most jobs of any province in July, mostly in the professional, scientific and technical services sector.
The provincial unemployment rate fell two-tenths to 6.8 per cent.
