“The last offer the employer provided us, provided no retroactive wage payment for 2024, no retroactive wage payment for 2025. Some wage improvements, not exactly what we wanted, but it was some improvement anyway. We said to the conciliation officer, without retroactive payment, we can’t accept this. Our members would reject it.”

Sweet adds the two sides haven’t met in weeks.
“We didn’t go on strike because it was a financially wise decision. A lot of it is improvements in the workplace. Being offered 10% of the year and getting a 3% pay increase, it doesn’t make sense, depending on your time horizon. If we’re talking about over a 10-year span, then maybe it is.”
