A 42-year-old man faces multiple charges after a crash on Highway 401 in Northumberland County on Sunday.
Around 6:30 p.m., Northumberland OPP received a report from a neighbouring police service regarding a light blue passenger vehicle that failed to stop for police and was last reported travelling east on Highway 401 from Port Hope.
Around the same time, police received several complaints from members of the public regarding the manner of driving of a similarly described vehicle travelling east on Highway 401.
At approximately 6:40 p.m., police and Emergency Medical Services responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 east in the Township of Cramahe.
Both occupants of one of the involved vehicles fled the scene on foot into a nearby wooded area.
The OPP Emergency Response Team was dispatched and both individuals were subsequently located with the driver being taken into custody.
The injuries sustained as a result of the collision can be described as non-life-threatening.
The individual was transported to a local OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result, Tyler Lazure of Oshawa has been charged with:
- Flight from peace officer
- Dangerous operation
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Fail to comply with probation order
- Fail to remain
- Driving while under suspension
The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in August.
In addition, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were imposed.
