A Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident where a cyclist was run off the road by a motorcycle rider.
On April 17, 2026, Peterborough OPP officers responded to a call on County Road 32 near Douro Dummer Township around 7:30 in the evening. Police had been called by EMS who were assisting the victim, who had major road rash, multiple lacerations, and was bleeding from the mouth. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later transported to a trauma centre in Toronto due to the extent of their injuries.
The injured man told the investigating officer that while on the trail, they encountered a group of people riding electric motorcycles in an unsafe manner. The victim spoke to one of the riders, who then kicked the cyclist off their bike, causing them to fall. The motorcycle in question was a black electric motorcycle without pedals.
On Thursday, a man turned himself in at the Peterborough County OPP detachment.
Michael Currie, a 29-year-old Peterborough man, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm, dangerous operation, two counts of operation while prohibited, two counts of driving while under suspension, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, driving without licence plates, driving without a permit, and having no turn signals.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in August.
