Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Warning for air quality covering the Quinte Region.
Smoke form Quebec wildfires is expected to drift south into the region, reducing air quality.
High levels of smoke are known to cause health risks, and Environment Canada is advising residents avoid spending time outside. For those who have to spend time outdoors, properly fitted N95 grade masks are recommended to reduce exposure to smoke particles.
Symptoms of smoke exposure can include eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.
Infants, pregnant women, and the elderly are noted to be at a higher risk of health complications.
