Close to 100 female hockey players have had a new opportunity to sharpen their skills both on and off the ice.
The Mélodie Daoust and Hanna Bunton Hockey Camp has been going on in The Friendly City this week, with a focus on long-term development.
Bunton spoke to Quinte News and says the camp emphasizes skating technique, puck control, and small-game strategy.
Off the ice, participants are taking part in multi-sport training and classroom sessions that feature guest speakers from successful hockey journeys.
Melodie Daoust is a multi-time Olympic gold medalist, while Bunton, a Belleville native, won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2013 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship.
She was named the Ivy League Women’s Hockey Player of the Year in 2017, while playing for the Cornell Big Red in NCAA.
The St Theresa Secondary grad is a former professional hockey player and now works with a Quebec-based Prep Women’s Hockey Program at College Bourget.
