The Ontario government has announced the completion of construction for the new long-term care home in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
The new Tsi Thonwatihsnye’s Long-Term Care Home will support 128 residents in the community.
In a release, the province says that the home is a recipient of a construction funding subsidy top-up.
The home will offer culturally appropriate services to the local Mohawk Elders, including approximately four “resident home areas” that will create living space for 32 residents in each area.
Also included in the home will be therapy and recreation rooms, a space for worship, and landscaped amenities throughout the grounds.
Approximately 170 jobs are being created, including full-time positions in nursing, personal support work, nutrition services, programming and administration.
The home is expected to welcome its first residents later this summer.
