The Hastings Prince Edward Ontario Health Team has announced that they have hit a major milestone for connecting patients to primary care doctors.
The Health Care Connect wait list for residents registered before January 1, 2025 has been reduced from 11,105 unattached patients to zero. This was done through a comprehensive evaluation of the list to review and update who was still on it. Following this validation process, there was determined to be 5,147 residents still needing a family physician or nurse practitioner. All of those patients have now been connected to primary care, with family doctors or nurse practitioners.
“The commitment of many health system partners allowed us to reach this milestone, and we are now focused on connecting the remaining unattached residents in our region,” said Barinder Gill, PCN Executive Co-Lead, in a press release. “Our physicians, nurse practitioners, and health-care teams care deeply about the people of Hastings Prince Edward, and this achievement reflects that commitment.”
Currently there are 3,226 unattached patients remaining on the Health Care Connect wait list who registered after January 1, 2025, but this is believed to not represent the true number of people without primary care in the community. Those who do not have a primary care doctor or are traveling outside the region for primary care are being encouraged to to register with Health Care Connect as a pathway to a family doctor/nurse practitioner and
comprehensive care.
