A GoFundMe page has been launched for the family affected by last week’s fire in Quinte West.
Quinte West Fire & Rescue responded to a blaze at 17 Bayside Drive just after 12 p.m. on Friday.
Fire Chief John Whelan tells Quinte News that the fire quickly turned into a three-alarm fire.
He said that a preliminary investigation suggests that the cause of the blaze was lithium batteries being charged on the deck of the house.
All occupants of the home were able to get out safely.
“While we are so grateful that PJ, Alicia, and their two little girls made it out safely, they’ve been left with the devastation of having nothing — no clothes, no toys, no everyday essentials, no home,” the GoFundMe page states.
“While they work through the insurance process (which we all know can take time and is quite complex), they’re facing immediate needs: temporary housing, clothing, food, school / camp supplies for the girls, and the hundreds of small things that make up a home and a daily life.”
Damage is estimated at $900,000.
As of 4:15 p.m on Monday, the GoFundMe has raised over $18,400 of its $26,000 goal.
