A celebration of life is being planned to remember people in the community who have passed while suffering homelessness.
The upcoming event is being held on June 27 at Lions Park. Many local people suffering from homelessness have passed in the community, with causes of death including overdoses, exposure to the elements, or being struck by trains.
The event organizer, Phyllis Coffman, said that it’s difficult losing so many people you’re trying to help.
“I’ve gotten to know quite a few of them out there in the last two-and-a-half years doing this,” said Coffman. “It’s really hard to lose that many of them, and I simply, I needed it. Then I realized if I needed it, they’re living with each other, they need it too.”
The event is planned to be fully open to the public.
