Brighton could soon have close relations with an American community by the same name.
At its meeting on Monday, Brighton council will discuss entering into a twinning agreement with Brighton in New York State.
Mayor Brian Ostrander says he hopes to foster goodwill, collaboration, and cultural exchange with officials in the American city of around 40,000 people.
Ostrander said the initiative is important due to current tensions over tariffs imposed by
U.S. President Donald Trump.
Last year Brighton council approved twinning with Anisy in France due to it having been where a Brighton resident, Clarke Lawson, perished fighting in World War II.
