Canada’s Road Safety Week is wrapping up over the Victoria Day long weekend, and police are on the lookout for behaviours they say are the most common causes of accidents on the road.
So far this year, the OPP have investigated over 100 road fatalities, representing a 20% increase over this time last year.
Police remain focused on the “big four” behaviours that cause the most deaths. Those are Impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and driving without a seat-belt. This year, fatigued driving was also added to the list of problem behaviours.
This year’s road safety campaign is tied to the larger Canada Road Safety Plan 2035, which aims to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world.
