Trent Severn Waterway will be opening in phases beginning today.
According to Parks Canada, the combination of increased precipitation in March and April combined with significant snowpack in both the Trent and Severn watersheds, has led to needing additional time to reduce water levels and flows.
Parks Canada says this is to ensure safe boating conditions across the system.
Locks 42 to 45 are closed to navigation until further notice.
All lockstations will remain open to land-based visitation.
It is noted, however, that the lockstations will open in stages as conditions allow but may be subject to temporary closure depending on weather systems and precipitation events.
Waterways between or adjacent to closed lockstations should be considered unsafe for navigation due to elevated flows.
Hours of operation can be found at Parks Canada’s website.
