Operation BeeStrong, a local initiative merging beekeeping, mentorship and mental wellness for first responders, military personnel and other trauma-exposed professionals, is officially buzzing into its first full season.
Operation BeeStrong is a specialized wellness initiative for active and retired first responders and military members involving beekeeping and pairing those interested with experienced beekeepers to learn the craft..
The program provides trauma-exposed professionals with a clear mission: mastering the craft of beekeeping through focused, hands-on mentorship. Built on the principle of “one mentee, one member, one hive,” the project fosters resilience and purpose through skill-building and peer connection within the community.
Founded in Belleville but serving the greater Quinte area including Quinte West and Prince Edward County, the organization is celebrating its growth while announcing an expansion into digital education and community mentorship.
As spring arrives, Operation BeeStrong is expanding its reach thanks to a network of local industry leaders and community advocates who recognize the power of the hive.
A Community-Powered Initiative
The success of Operation BeeStrong is built on the foundation of local expertise. The organization is proud to acknowledge the continued support of a number of local groups and businesses in accomplishing its mission:
- NOD Apiary Products Ltd. (often referred to as Nature’s Own Design) which is a pioneering Canadian company in Trenton, specializing in sustainable, organic, and effective health products for honey bees.
- Equipment expertise are provided by Dancing Bee Equipment in Port Hope, ensuring mentees have access to some exceptional gear to start their journey.
- Communications, website design and social media have been generously provided by AMP Visual Media (https://www.ampvisualmedia.com/), which is located in Bayside.
- Backend infrastructure, including user management and learning platforms are being developed by The Agent Factory (https://disco.theagentfactory.ai/us)
- Crucially, the Quinte Beekeepers Association (QBA) remains an invaluable partner, providing a pipeline of expertise and a shared passion for the local honeybee population.
“We aren’t doing this in a vacuum,” says Jeremy Ashley, Co-Founder of Operation BeeStrong. “Having the backing of the QBA, AMP Media and local businesses like Nature’s Own Design means our mentees are stepping into a supportive, professional ecosystem from day one.”
Call for Mentors and Local Supporters
With a surge of new mentees already signed up across the Quinte region, the organization is issuing an urgent call for experienced beekeepers in Belleville, Trenton, and PEC to serve as mentors.
“The QBA has been an incredible resource for guidance, but as our waitlist grows, so does our need for hands-on mentors,” notes Laura Brown, Founding Board Member. “We are looking for experienced beekeepers, both recreational and commercial, who want to share their craft while helping a neighbor find peace and purpose in the apiary.”
New Online Educational Frontier
In a major step toward accessibility, Operation BeeStrong is currently developing a comprehensive, free online beekeeping course. Slated for launch later this year, this digital resource will provide foundational knowledge to aspiring apiarists in the Quinte area and beyond, removing financial barriers to entering the craft.
How to Get Involved
Individuals interested in becoming a mentor, signing up for the upcoming online course, or supporting the program as a community partner are encouraged to visit beestrong.ca.
