Canada’s National Defence says that 424 Squadron from CFB Trenton will be hosting a Joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Exercise within the Trenton area beginning today.
The exercise will see 424 Squadron, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Canadian Coast Guard, Ontario Provincial Police, Civil Aviation Search And Rescue Association, and international partners including United States Coast Guard practice realistic overland and overwater SAR scenarios with a focus on interoperability and coordination between air and surface-based assets.
The exercise will take place from May 4 to May 8 within the Trenton Search and Rescue Region over mixed terrain and mixed airspace and will include night operations in the vicinity of Trenton and Lake Ontario.
National Defence says that the intent of the exercise is to strengthen interoperability, communication, and coordination between 424 Sqn and partnered local, provincial, national, and international rescue organizations through a realistic joint SAR exercise based out of 8 Wing Trenton.
They say these types of exercises provide realistic training scenarios for the dedicated Search and Rescue crews ensuring that they are ready to quickly respond to any type of incident to help safe lives.
