A Quinte area man will begin a ten-year prison sentence, following a judge’s ruling in Belleville court on Monday.
Justice Patrick Hurley laid out his sentence against Brian Robert Reid (aged 45 at the time of charges).
Reid was found guilty on 10 charges, including three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference, two counts of inviting sexual touching, sexual exploitation and making child pornography.
Hurley accepted 10.5 months pre-sentence custody, a DNA order, a lifetime weapons prohibition, a forfeiture order of all items seized by police, a communication ban, internet/communication order with restrictions, and a SOIRA order (Sex Offender Information Registration Act).
Hurley says it was prolonged and regular abuse of two young victims, by a person in a position of trust and authority.
The court handed out a publication ban, when it came to the victims of the case.
In his sentence reasoning, Justice Hurley pointed to the damage of the victims’ emotional, physical, and mental well-being.
He added that Reid was a predator, taking advantage of the victims, without regard for the profound harm he was causing.
“In regard to the overall purpose and principles of sentencing and considering all the facts and circumstances of this offender, and these offences, including the mitigating and aggravating factors, the sentence proposed by the Crown of 10 to 12 years, less pre-sentence custody, is a reasonable one.”
