Different groups of students at Belleville Christian School raised money to support local causes in June.
One group of students raised $502 for the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward through their pizza sale.
A group of six boys in Grade 4 decided that they wanted to use their talent and passion for making homemade mini-pizzas to do a fundraiser that would help support the animals at the local animal shelter.
On Wednesday, June 3rd, with the help of some of their parents, the boys prepared around 80 pre-ordered pizzas in the BCS kitchen and then their classmates helped deliver these pizzas to the classrooms.
When asked why they wanted to raise funds for the Humane Society, the boys answered by saying, “We all love dogs. We love animals and we love making pizzas. We want more animals to be able to come and for them to be able to buy dog food and stuff for the animals.”
“I was so impressed with the boys who planned this fundraiser,” says Claire Dulude, Programs & Events Coordinator for the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward. “It was so inspiring to see that they took the time out of their schedules to cook all the pizzas themselves. As a nonprofit, we rely on the support of our community. Donations like these help us to continue the important everyday work we do.”
At the same time, another group of students at Belleville Christian School ran a bake sale and toy sale which raised about $380 for diabetes.
This was a cause that was important to them because they have a teacher, and a student in the school who are living with diabetes, as well as some parents of students in the Grade 4 class.
Other small groups of students ran lemonade stands at various offsite locations to support causes such as helping a local student who is battling cancer, or supporting our local homeless shelter, each raising amounts ranging from $50 to $500.00.
“At BCS, our school encourages students to develop leadership qualities and skills by teaching them a student version of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits, which also includes an 8th Habit called, Finding your Voice. Finding your voice is about discovering your God-given talents and passions and then combining those to meet a need in the community,” says Grade 4 teacher, Mrs. Bonnie Visser.
“These projects allowed the students to use their passion and talent to help a cause that was important to them.”
