There will be a motion Monday evening to have the Ministry of Education take over control of the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board.
Sidney and Frankford Trustee Ernie Parsons made a Notice of Motion at the March meeting of the HPEDSB Board of Trustees.
“Thank you, Chair. At the next regular board meeting, I will move or cause to be moved the following motion: that the Minister of Education be requested to take control of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and appoint a supervisor for the board.”
HPEDSB Director of Education Katherine MacIver and Board Chair Dr. Kari Kramp were on the Lorne Brooker Show last week.
Kramp says the request came as a surprise.
“We haven’t had an opportunity to hear the why. At the board meeting on Monday there will be an opportunity for Trustee Parsons to present his why. Then there will be an opportunity for each of the trustees within the board to speak to the motion as well.”
MacIver says she believes the trustees should remain in charge, not a supervisor.
“We have 15,500 students we’re responsible for. Ten voices come to better decisions from my perspective than one voice does.”
