A teacher from St Theresa Catholic Secondary in Belleville was back in the classroom, less than 24 hours after completing the Boston Marathon.
On Monday, 49-year-old Daniel Tie Ten Quee joined tens of thousands of athletes from around the world, taking part in the most prestigious marathon on the globe.
He spoke to Quinte News on Wednesday, joking most anyone could walk faster than him now.
“It’s my first time making it to Boston, I’ve been trying several times. I qualified in Cornwall last year, it’s called the St. Lawrence Marathon and I ran 3:10 and a few seconds.”

He said it was a personal best in Cornwall, but it still almost was not enough.
“I was fortunate to get in. The qualifying standard for my age was 3:15, but because too many people qualified they made it more difficult. They pushed it back and I ended up making it just by 0:20 seconds.”
Once he got to Boston, Tie Ten Quee says he was able to take in all the excitement of what was around him.
“It’s really all about the pomp and circumstance while you’re there because the focusing and challenge is all about qualifying. Once you’re there, you just really enjoy the huge crowds and there are people cheering all the way down, there are bands playing, and 30,000 people are running. A lot of waiting around to get through the crowds and they start you in waves.”
He says it was incredible to be able to share the accomplishment with his family.
