There were a few more building permits issued in March but the construction value of those permits was much less than the year before.
The City of Belleville Building Department issued 34 permits worth $4.4 million in construction activity last month.
In March 2025, there were 30 permits valued at $10.5 million.
The difference was mostly due to a $5.7 million industrial permit issued last year.
Four of last month’s permits were for new residential construction.
Year-to-date construction is down almost 50% with the 2026 value through the end of March sitting at $10.9 million.
There was $20.9 million worth of construction activity during the first three months of 2025.
