An 83-year-old male was taken to hospital Sunday afternoon after a watercraft overturned on the Moira River.
Belleville firefighters responded to the area of the 600 block of Scuttlehole Road around 2:30 p.m.
A group of paddle sports enthusiasts were coming down the Moira River to Latta when one of their craft overturned causing two people to go into the water.
One male made it the far shore while the second victim managed to make it to an island in the middle of the fast flowing water.
A team of 2 rescuers launched the RDC rapid deployment craft and paddled through and across the rapids to the island where the male person was trapped.
The team was able to make contact with the individual and secure him on the craft before traversing back across the rapids to shore.
The 83 year old victim was transported to Belleville hospital by Hastings Quinte Paramedics.
His condition is not known.
