A suspect has been arrested after a break and enter at a community organization resulting in approximately $20,000 in items stolen.
Belleville police responded to the report in the east end on April 9.
Employees reported arriving at work to find that the locks on their storage units had been cut and approximately $20,000 worth of items were stolen.
Surveillance footage was reviewed by police, and officers spotted a male entering the property at approximately 2:07 a.m.
Police say he was seen inspecting storage units before leaving shortly after.
At around 4:10 a.m., the same male returned with another male, carrying an empty wagon.
The video also shows one of the males cutting locks on storage units while both survey the area.
At around 4:30 a.m., both men were seen leaving the property, carrying tools in the wagon. Officers were able to identify one suspect from the footage.
On April 10, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Belleville police, with help from the Emergency Response Unit, executed a warrant in the city’s east end.
Thirty-eightyear-old Andrew Markell of Belleville was charged with the following:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
- Mischief under $5000
- Theft over $5000
- Fail to comply with probation order
He was held for a bail hearing on April 11.
Belleville police say that recovered property is being returned to its rightful owners.
The investigation is ongoing.
