Quinte West and Belleville’s annual spring curbside Giveaway Days will be held May 9-10.
Giveaway Days offer residents a chance to discover new-to-them treasures while supporting a cleaner, healthier environment by diverting items from the landfill.
Residents are invited to place unwanted household items in good condition curbside for others to take on May 9 and 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Items should be clearly labelled as free.
Printable “free” signs can be found on both municipalities’ Giveaway Days webpages.
Items not intended for the event should be kept separate.
Put giveaway items curbside beginning at 8 a.m. and bring any unclaimed items back inside by 8 p.m.
Appropriate items to give away include DVDs, books, furniture, small appliances, kitchen items, home decor and construction materials, such as hardware, lumber and drywall. Health Canada’s Consumer Product Safety Directorate advises against giving away cribs, car seats, strollers, bath seats and playpens to avoid unsafe use.
“Curbside Giveaway Days are a simple and effective way to reduce what we send to the landfill,” says City of Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “By choosing to reuse, residents are helping protect our environment and build a more sustainable Quinte West.”
“Giveaway Days are a great opportunity to tackle some spring cleaning and clear out items you no longer need,” says City of Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis. “By passing those items along for others to enjoy, residents can reduce landfill waste while helping out their neighbours.”
