Kingston police issued 78 traffic tickets over the Easter long weekend in an enforcement blitz.
From April 3 to 6, the Kingston Police Traffic Safety Unit conducted targeted enforcement focused on improper, unsafe, and aggressive driving.
The majority of offences were related to excessive speeding. Officers issued 61 speeding tickets, with drivers recorded travelling an average of 30 km/h or more above the posted speed limits. The highest speed recorded was 59 km/h over the limit in a 60 km/h zone.
Additional charges included eight tickets for disobeying a lane light, five tickets for disobeying a stop sign, two tickets for expired permits, one ticket for failing to display two licence plates, and one for operating a trailer without a licence plate.
Police are reminding drivers that aggressive and high-risk driving makes dangerous accidents more likely, and encourages drivers to obey speed limits and drive responsibly at all times.
