Quinte West is preparing for the next municipal election, scheduled for Oct. 26, 2026. This October, voters will choose Quinte West’s mayor, councillors and school board trustees for the 2026-2030 term.
Strong local democracy starts with people who care about their community. Whether through voting or running for office, Quinte West residents all have a part to play in shaping the community’s future.
Information for voters:
This October, eligible voters can vote in person or online. Make sure your information is up to date before voting. You can check, update or add your information for municipal and provincial elections online now. Visit registertovoteon.ca to get started.
Information for candidates:
Candidates interested in running for Quinte West Council can file a nomination beginning May 1, 2026. Nominations must be filed in person at Quinte West City Hall, by appointment with the City of Quinte West’s Clerk’s Office. Candidate nomination packages will be available on Friday, April 17.
Candidates interested in running for local school boards are encouraged to visit Quinte West’s election website, quintewestvotes.ca, to find out where nominations can be filed.
Candidate information session – April 28:
The City of Quinte West and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing will host a candidate information session on Tuesday, April 28, at 5:30 p.m. in Quinte West Council Chambers (7 Creswell Dr., Trenton). This session is open to anyone interested in becoming a candidate and will provide an overview of eligibility requirements, candidate responsibilities, the nomination and registration process, campaign finances and resources available to candidates.
Pre-registration is not required to attend this optional session.
Key election dates:
- April 28, 2026: Candidate information session
- May 1, 2026: First day to file a candidate nomination
- Aug. 21, 2026: Last day to file a candidate nomination
- Oct. 14, Oct. 17 and Oct. 20, 2026: Advance voting days
- Oct. 26, 2026: Election Day
