Statement from MP Chris Malette:
“I am pleased to hear today’s announcement by the Government of Ontario to fund the long-awaited reconstruction of County Road 49.
County Road 49 is more than a roadway—it is a vital gateway into Prince Edward County for residents, businesses and the many visitors who support our local economy. Rehabilitating this corridor will help protect and strengthen key economic drivers in our region, including industry, agriculture and tourism.
This investment reflects years of persistent advocacy. I want to commend Mayor Steve Ferguson, members of council—past and present—and county residents for their continued efforts in bringing this project forward and ensuring it remained a priority across all levels of government.
I was proud to help facilitate a meeting between Mayor Ferguson, Interim CAO Adam Goheen and senior officials with Transport Canada to advance this important project and ensure it remained a priority.
Today’s announcement is a significant step forward for the county, and I look forward to seeing this project move ahead.”
