Hospice Quinte is expanding at its flagship facility.
Appearing on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show, Hospice Quinte’s Executive Director Petra Lepage, announced they are planning a major expansion to the Stan Klemencic Care Centre.
“We are currently a six-bed hospice facility, and we’re bringing on an additional four beds to help provide care for those in need,” said Lepage. “We have a great need. We often have wait lists that can run anywhere from six to twelve people, and we want to ensure that we can provide as much care and the best quality of care possible for those in our community.
The expansion of the structure will be built at the south side of the facility, offering privacy for patients and families. Besides the four additional beds, it will feature a new sun lounge, laundry facilities, and an office for visiting doctors to use when meeting with patients.
The expansions to the care centre are expected to cost $5 million, which will be funded through their just-launched capital fundraising campaign.
“We really think that we’ll be able to accomplish our goal very quickly,” said Lepage. “We’ve had a number of people that have really been interested in supporting an expansion. We’ve been talking about expanding since we opened the facility back in 2021 and now this is reality.”
The new facilities are planned to be ready to open by January 2027.
