Peterborough County OPP have arrested a person after they were found rummaging through unlocked cars.
On Saturday, just before 9 p.m., officers received a call about a person going through a vehicle. The caller approached the person, because they didn’t think the vehicle belonged to them. The suspect attempted to leave the area, but the caller was able to keep them at the scene and called police.
When officers arrived, they spoke to the suspect and found several items in their possession that did not belong to them. The accused was arrested, and taken to the Peterborough County OPP Detachment.
Ronald Wretham, a 38-year-old from Trent Lakes, was charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, and failure to comply with a probation order.
The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
Police are reminding the public of steps they can take to deter theft from their vehicles. People are advised to always lock their doors, park in well-lit spaces, never leave valuables in plain sight, and never leave keys inside the vehicle.
