The project timeline for the planned rehabilitation of County Road 49 has gotten a little longer.
During Prince Edward County Council’s Tuesday meeting, council discussed a funding arrangement with the province, to partially fund the work needed to restore County Road 49.
Previously the province announced it would be providing $20 million to the project, which is 50% of the total cost, after a successful grant application. Under that agreement there was a deadline to tender the work, set for September 30 2026, and a completion deadline set for March 31, 2028. This original timeline only allowed for one complete construction season between the two deadlines.
Since then, in order to secure funding for the remaining half and allow enough time to complete the project, the municipality and province agreed to extend the construction deadline to December 31, 2028.
After receiving a report on the new timeline for the project, council voted to approve an amended funding agreement with the province, reflecting the new deadline. That motion passed without debate.
