Belleville City Council has approved moving forward with submitting a grant application in partnership with Loyalist College at its council meeting on Monday.
The application would be for the Prosper Belleville Manufacturing Business Retention and Expansion project, a workforce promotion campaign that aims to attract and retain local talent in the skilled trades and manufacturing sector.
As part of the application to the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) grant program, council preapproved up to $150,000 in the 2026 operating budget.
$75,000 would come from Loyalist College while the other half would be funded through the grant, if approved.
According to the city, the project would not proceed unless the application under ROD is approved and a contribution agreement between the City of Belleville and the province is executed.
As part of the approval from council, a by-law will be prepared for council’s consideration for the memorandum of understanding.
That by-law will be brought to council at a future meeting.
