Two men charged in separates cases of intimate partner violence

An 18-year-old male is facing several charges including forcible confinement and multiple counts of assault following an incident in Belleville’s west end Monday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute around 5:30 p.m.

It was reported that a verbal argument had escalated, and a male was barricading himself inside a room along with three other individuals.

Officers gained entry to the room and observed several smashed items on the ground.

Further investigation revealed prior incidents when the male suspect physically assaulted the female victim, including slapping her in the face and grabbing her by the throat.

The Belleville male was also on conditions not to communicate with the woman.

The man was arrested and charged with:

Assault x6
Assault with a weapon x3
Assault causing bodily harm
Uttering threats x2
Take motor vehicle without consent
Break and enter
Mischief under $5000
Forcible confinement
Failure to comply with an undertaking x4

He was held for a bail hearing.

In a separate incident on Monday, Belleville police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at west-end residence just before 1 p.m.

It was reported that a verbal argument had escalated and that a male had punched a female and damaged the staircase banister inside the house.

As a result of investigation, a 39-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:

Assault
Mischief under $5000
Fail to comply with a probation order

He was held for a bail hearing.
