The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board’s new Director of Education has assumed their role.
Carey Smith-Dewey starts her role today as Director, bringing 28 years of experience in the ALCDSB as a teacher, vice-principal, principal, superintendent of education and now Director of Education.
“I am honoured to step into this leadership role and continue to support our Catholic learning communities,” said Smith-Dewey. “I will take this opportunity to lead with humility, gratitude, and a profound sense of purpose. I am driven by a mission to nurture a school system anchored in Gospel values, academic excellence, equity, and inclusion to ensure that every student is known, loved, and inspired to succeed.”
She is the board’s first female director, replacing the retired David DeSantis.
Smith-Dewey was also a student in the board, graduating from Nicholson Catholic College.
