There’s good news and not-so-good news when it comes to staffing at Quinte Health’s four hospitals.
The good news is that overall staffing vacancy rates have been dropping.
And for some staff like Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Personal Support Workers vacancies are below five per cent, better than in pre-pandemic times.
Quinte Health CEO Stacey Daub tells Quinte News that staff retention rates have also improved and “are very good.”
Daub credits Loyalist College and its nursing and PSW programs for creating a local pipeline of new staff for the organization.
“This is the first year we won’t have any placements for all of the nursing students that trained with us.”
“This is the first year we won’t have any placements for all of the nursing students that trained with us.”
She also says Quinte Health has created a positive culture over time. “It’s just a good place to work.”
The bad news isn’t new. There continues to be a need for emergency room doctors, but despite that, all of Quinte Health’s emergency departments remained open during the summertime holiday period.
Various types of specialist physicians also continue to be recruited and there’s room for allied health professionals such as Respiratory Therapists, Ultrasound Sonographers, and Medical Radiology Technologists.
