Aggravated Assault Arrest:
A 49-year-old Peterborough man wanted on an Ontario-wide warrant is facing new charges after an incident Saturday evening.
At approximately 6:50 p.m. on August 16, 2025, officers were called to a residence in the Southlawn Drive and Otonabee Drive area. Upon arrival, officers found a 42-year-old woman with a knife injury, being treated by bystanders and learned that the suspect was still inside the home. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to help contain the residence and facilitate his arrest. Just before 9 p.m., ERT entered the home and the suspect was taken into custody and then to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of injuries that happened during the initial incident.
As a result of the investigation, the 49-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the warrant and further charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Choke, suffocate or strangle
- Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm – Spousal
- Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court
The accused was bound by a release order not to possess a weapon as defined by the Criminal Code.
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday court on August 17, 2025.
The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim in this incident.
Assault with a Weapon Arrest:
A 33-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an ongoing neighbour dispute.
At approximately 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, officers were called to a residence in the Antrim and Aylmer Street area. Upon arrival, officers learned that one person had been cut with a knife and left the residence to call police. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The Emergency Response Team was called in to assist with ensuring the building was safe and evacuating any remaining residents. During that time, investigating officers further learned that the suspect had left the building prior to police arrival. The man was taken into custody as he returned to the area.
As a result of the investigation, the 33-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Assault with a Weapon
The accused was held in custody and appeared in Weekend and Statutory Holiday court on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
