From April 27 to May 3, Volunteer Canada and Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society celebrate
Canada’s millions of volunteers during National Volunteer Week. The National Volunteer Week
theme for 2025, is Volunteers Make Waves.
Volunteering creates waves in communities and swells with each generation of volunteers.
The actions of volunteers ripple out to broader community benefits, like improved well-being, increased social cohesion
and enhanced resilience in the face of change and uncertainty.
Over the years, our volunteers have been a constant support in assisting families, children and youth.
At Highland Shores Children’s Aid, we recognize the power of people, organizations, and sectors
working together.
During fiscal 2024-2025, 29 individuals donated their time as either board members or volunteer
drivers for Highland Shores. Those volunteer drivers logged 362,108 km as of the end of March
serving children, youth and families which accounts for 1698 volunteer hours. Also, board members
each participated in over 25 board and committee meetings, which doesn’t consider the time spent
to prepare for, or travel to, those meetings.
“At Highland Shores, we believe kids come first. Our volunteer drivers and board members live this value as evidenced
by their numerous acts of service.
Sometimes, they sacrifice time with their own families in order to benefit the children and families
we work with. We owe them a debt of gratitude,” said Jess Uddenberg, Executive Director of
Highland Shores Children’s Aid.
