The Ontario PC candidate for the Bay of Quinte riding, Tyler Allsopp, opened his re-election campaign office in downtown Trenton Friday.
Allsopp told Quinte News Trump’s tariff and other threats are no joke.
“You know we don’t take these comments likely when he sees these sorts of things, like he’s going to annex Canada, 51st governor, 51st state that sort of thing. We appreciate that if these tariffs come in it could cost up to 450,000 Ontario jobs.”
Another big issue in the campaign is health care and Allsopp said the PC government has been making significant investments in that sector.
“We’ve increased the budget for healthcare from $60 billion in 2018 to almost $85 billion today, a 40 percent increase. We know that we need more”
doctors but Ontario does have the best attachment rate for primary care in all of Canada, about 90 percent but we see in rural areas like ours that falls to about 72 percent.
When it comes to education Allsopp told Quinte News that different strategies will be needed.
“And there is a significant difference between the larger urban colleges and the smaller, rural, more northern colleges so I think we’ll need a varied approach, it won’t be the one size fits all type solution.”
The provincial election is February 27.
