Thirty-two novice pickleball players will be dealing with sore muscles today but the pain will be well worth it.
Two teams, one from Belleville and one from Quinte West, competed for the Golden Pickle in the second annual YMCA Strong Kids Pickleball Tournament Wednesday at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
Well over $100,000 was raised for the Strong Kids Campaign.
Last year’s inaugural tournament raised $41,000.
Belleville team captain, realtor Patricia Guernsey, couldn’t believe they’d more than doubled that total.
“We only imagined in the back of our minds that we’d hit a hundred thousand and then when it came to reality last night we went ecstatic!”
Quinte West team captain, McDonald’s owner Ken Schmidt, says the money raised will help many families in the area.
“Financially disadvantaged families or children or youth can access the money to do events at the Y, camp at the Y, swimming at the Y.”
Team Schmidt of Quinte West raised the most money and the owner of Mystical Distributing in Trenton Mark Phillips was the top individual fundraiser.
