But, as Quinte West Fire Prevention Officer Dave Wheeler also reminds us, there’s something else we should do at the same time.
“Last year we had 133 deaths in Ontario in structure fires and those numbers have been the highest in 20 years. So we’re really trying to get the word out to change the batteries in your smoke alarms, change your batteries in your carbon monoxide alarms.”
Wheeler says alarms should also be tested every month and replaced every 10 years.
There should be smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors on every floor and by bedrooms
