City of Belleville planning staff are working to make official the new provincial government policy regarding secondary residential units on urban residential properties.
In Bill 23 the province mandated that two accessory dwellings be allowed on an urban property zoned for single family, semi-detached, or townhouses.
The changes permit up to three units within the main building or two units in the main building and one unit in an accessory building.
Currently the city’s zoning by-law only allows one accessory residential unit on such properties.
A public meeting will be held soon on the changes and Belleville council will be asked to approve the changes shortly after that.
