On January 20, 2022, at approximately 12:14 p.m., members from the Northumberland OPP responded to a serious collision involving a tractor trailer and four motor vehicles. The collision occurred on Highway 401 west between Wooler Rd and County Rd 30 in the municipality of Brighton. During the collision, the tractor trailer traversed the ditch dividing eastbound and westbound traffic and came to a stop in the westbound lanes.
As a result of the collision, one driver was killed at the scene, and a passenger suffered serious injuries, requiring transport to a medical facility by Ornge for treatment.
Traffic on Highway 401 east is reduced to one lane, while Highway 401 west between Wooler Rd and County Rd 30 remains closed while OPP Technical Collision Investigation members continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
