Some restoration work is underway on the outside of Belleville City Hall – both a decorative and safety project.
Some of the decorative trim has been falling off the building over the last few years.
The city hired a restoration company to do some restorative work on the building’s decorative trim.
Deputy Chief Building Officer Brett Forestell tells Quinte News that this was “basically on the bell tower” but that some extra work is being done as well.
“They’re doing some other repairs to the sill belt that surrounds the building and also replacing some deteriorated bricks that we’ve found as well.”
Forestell says, “It’s a relatively small restoration job that needed to be done.”
“The primary thing there was little chunks of the trim, mortar trim work, that you see there that’s kind of mustardy colour. There were pieces of that that were failing and falling off.”
A Toronto company, B.A. Construction and Restoration, has been hired and the work has been budgeted at $220,000.
Forestell says the project is slated for 10 weeks, and has been underway now for about three weeks.
