Belleville Police have confirmed that charges have been laid against the organizers of an anti-lockdown rally at West Zwick’s Park last month.
Investigators say between 100 and 150 attended the rally on April 16, which went against Ontario’s current stay-at-home order.
The two people identified as organizers are facing charges of organizing a public event contrary to the Reopening Ontario Act and organizing a gathering with more than 25 people present, under a City of Belleville by-law.
They’ve been issued court summons for July 5 to answer to those charges.
Police say several other people were ticketed, with two other attendees also being given court dates for violating the Reopening Ontario Act.
No names have been released.
Investigators say more charges are pending as they continue to try and locate other people who were at the rally.
