Grain growers in eastern Ontario are getting ready for a good year in 2021, according to a representative of the Grain Farmers of Ontario.
Lloyd Crowe who represents the eastern Ontario growers, says the farmers had a terrible drought last year but “the prices are good” this year.
He’s counting on better weather.
And Crowe tells Quinte News, “The prices are higher than they’ve been in years.”
“I would bet half the farmers have their crops already booked. At least half of it. At least half the crop booked.”
Crowe adds, “Farmers are very optimistic because we had our bad year last year in yield. The odds are in our favour.”
“Gotta keep the rain coming. That’s the main issue right now is weather. Sometimes we do well and sometimes we don’t.”
The crops he’s talking about are corn, soybeans and wheat.
But, he says there’s also a shortage of hay.
“Everything that comes out of the ground is in demand,” he says.
