Officials with Gleaners Food Bank are praising a local grocery store for raising a chunk of cash through a recent holiday fundraising campaign.
John Burke at Metro in Belleville handed over a cheque to food bank staff this week, worth a little more than $5,174.
Gleaners Public Relations and Fundraising Coordinator Sarah Kring says the money comes at a much-needed time, as the food bank expands its online booking and delivery services, leading to an increase in use.
Last year alone, Gleaners helped close to 1,500 families and distributed more than 164,500 kilograms of food across the Quinte Region.
