The Frankford Huskies are asking for a reduction in ice fees for the team for the upcoming hockey season.
Scott Scaletta, owner of the hockey team, gave a deputation to Quinte West Council during Wednesday’s meeting, where he said that the limited capacity for seating spectators was limiting the team’s revenue compared to other teams in their league, creating a disadvantage for them. He requested reduced rates for ice time because their games were bringing more customers to the surrounding businesses, benefiting the community.
After his presentation, council briefly discussed the request. Councillor Zach Card said that they can’t offer just one user of the facility a preferential rate.
“The other fee payers that are paying a similar rate would obviously want a similar reduction. I’m sure that would be a glaring inequity,” said councillor Card. “I don’t think that we can pass out money on this basis.”
Council accepted the deputation, but took no action at this time.
